The Thames suite of international English language examinations for young learners provides a carefully structured set of tests, which allows candidates to progress through eight levels from Starter Level (A1) to Level Seven (B2).

Our comprehensive suite of examinations trains children and teenagers to take other international English language tests such as IGCSE and IELTS, which are valid for study abroad or in the workplace. Candidates are assessed by native speakers of English from the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

The content of our exams varies from country to country, in order to cater for the different cultural and educational backgrounds of our candidates. We believe that both children and teenagers find our tests interesting, motivating, practical and useful. Candidates feel encouraged and grow in confidence by working towards certificates that record their progress in English language learning.

All eight levels of our examinations test candidates’ knowledge of the grammar and lexis of English and the skills of reading and writing. Levels Three to Seven also test candidates’ listening and speaking skills.

For a detailed description of each level, please refer to our Examinations Handbook. You can also view sample exam papers.
